Where it started
We know what its like to struggle with skin that reacts to everything.
Thunderbird Skin started 10 years ago when we needed to resolve our own debilitating 18 year battle with sensitive, eczema prone skin that fell apart with any challenge.
I know how hard it is to see your child's confidence crumble and watch them miss out when you're afraid of how their skin might react.
When I realised we were just chasing flares and never giving Scout's skin a chance to defend itself, we decided to focus on barrier repair to strengthen her skin. A strong barrier function means skin that's more resilient and less likely to break down when challenged.
Armed with this knowledge, we needed a natural, science backed way to support Scout's reactive skin and establish a strong barrier function. When nothing was available that our met our skin's needs, we created it ourselves and Scout had clear skin for the first time in her life.
I will never forget the day she came downstairs to show me her skin's transformation. Even she couldn't believe the change!
Word got around and soon everyone was asking for a pot of our miracle balm and Thunderbird Skin was born.
What started in our kitchen has grown to a 7500 square foot studio and an award winning line of products with 500,000 Rescue Balms sold yearly in 26 countries. Still handcrafted daily here by our team of artisans.
Why it works
Your skin breaks down when it's barrier is damaged. Your skin is not a sponge, it's a wall and when that wall has holes, moisture gets out and irritants get in. This leads to that dry, tight, hot feeling we're all so familiar with.
Our Rescue Balm is filled with natural lipids that fill those gaps, keeping moisture in and irritants out. Centella, chamomile and allantoin calm the surface while zinc protects. This gives your skin the armour it needs to stop reacting and get back to doing its job -being a barrier that shields you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long until I see results?
While many users see results in a week, we recommend 6 weeks as the realistic time frame to see real results from a restored barrier function and 3 months for a return to a resilient barrier function.
Consistency and patience are key to a lasting result with skincare. It takes a minimum of 28 days for your skin cells to fully turnover so it's important to be persistent and use your Balm at least twice daily. We promise its worth it!
What is the difference between the Rescue Balm and the Rescue Cream?
Our Rescue Balm is comprised almost entirely of botanical oils and butters whereas our Rescue Cream is a traditional water based moisturiser. While they share similar ingredients and the same level of actives, they are two very different products with the Balm offering a significantly higher level of hydration and protection.
For moderate to severe cases, we always recommend starting with the Balm with the option to transition to the Cream to maintain your result. Less severe cases can go straight to the Cream if its their preferred texture.
What is the difference between the Rescue Balm and Wild Crafted Repair Balm?
In a nutshell, their ingredients!
While both products are safe for all skin, our Repair Balm has been formulated especially for facial skin using ancient oils that have centuries of use for their anti-ageing properties.
Can babies and children use the Rescue Balm?
Our Rescue Balm, Rescue Cream and Skin Calming Tonic can all be used from 3 months of age.
Can I use the Balm while pregnant or breast feeding?
While our Rescue Balm has not been contraindicated for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, we'd recommend referring to the ingredient list to best enable you to choose what's best for your situation.
Care should always be taken to avoid ingestion by baby while breastfeeding.
Why is my Balm grainy?
Our skin food first formulation process means that we prioritize results and the quality of our ingredients over visual presentation, leaving out the pore-clogging waxes, stabilizers, and fillers traditionally included in other balms to keep a product aesthetically consistent while offering no benefit to your skin. Instead, we focus on packing IN the best clinically proven, raw natural ingredients that are at the heart of why our products consistentlty outperform the competition.
The concentrated waterless formula is designed to melt into your skin on touch, transforming into a deeply moisturizing, skin calming fluid oil that's best able to love your sensitive skin.
Your Balm should be kept cool and away from sunlight and heat sources or it will melt. If allowed to melt, some separation may occur and this can lead to a grainy texture. This in no way harms the product or its efficacy. It can be used as is by melting in your palm or you can gently heat it in a water bath until the oils are fully melted, stir and move to a refrigerator to reset.
